Just because you listen to Ben Greenfield don’t make you Ben Greenfield

I recently had a friendly chat with my friend, and previous podcast guest Beth Peroutka. Beth, if you recall, told the story of how she had to quit her promising career as a trumpeter because of an awful injury to her lip while in her doctoral studies.

She eventually became a fitness and health expert and runs a successful gym out of her garage in Texas.

She said something along the lines of, “Editing Ben Greenfield’s show, you must have 8-pack abs by now.”

To which I replied, “Well, just because I listen to Ben Greenfield, doesn’t make me Ben Greenfield,” or words to that effect. Meaning that I’m beginning to look my age of 45 years young.

I do have a full six-pack somewhere in there, but the little plastic thing that holds it all together was lost years ago.

That being said, I have developed a lot of really good habits and practices in my life in the 3 years I’ve edited Ben’s show (in case you’re not familiar, Ben is a legit guru in the health and fitness space, you should look him up if you’re looking to up your fitness game, not just physically but emotionally and spiritually.)

Beth’s comment was all in good fun, but it’s amazing how many folks seem to think that listening to a podcast somehow makes them that person who’s doing the podcast.

Well, in this case, Ben Greenfield does a great job of creating a world in which those who press the “play” button step into, and become immersed in.

But that’s not what I want to call your attention to.

Listening to a health and fitness guru talk about doing this and that to get a ripped body doesn’t give you a ripped body.

It definitely gives you some motivation to do some extra jumping jacks in the morning, to maybe skip that fourth Red Bull in the evening, and so on, but unless you actually do the work, you’re not going to get ripped.

Obvious, right?

It’s the obviousness of things that are so simple, yet so often overlooked.

It’s why I prepared and recorded an old classic story, “Obvious Adams” for my loyal followers and fans.

I just finished editing the print and recording the audio today, and it’s now available on my mobile app.

You can access it at this link: https://jamesnewcombontrumpet.com/obvious-adams-landing-page/

Oh, and by the way, Beth’s interview is only available on the app as of a few weeks ago. I had to take it down from the free players like Apple and Spotify.

All these freebie-seekers is unattractive.
