I asked my son what to write about today…

I was having a bit of writer’s block this morning, trying to decide what to write about for my daily email/blog. Well, trying to decide would imply I had a couple of options to choose from. I had nothing, so I asked my son Gabriel via FaceTime what I should write about.

“Write about how I always hug my mom, and am always good to her.”

I probably couldn’t have thought of anything better to write about.

The innocence of a 7 year old child puts things in perspective, reminds you of what’s really important in life, right? My son’s mother and I have issues yet to be resolved, and quite frankly may never be resolved. But you focus on what you can control, right?

You can’t control someone else’s attitude, actions, perception of you. You can control your attitude and actions – and reactions when others, well, don’t have the right perspective.

A big reason I’m here in Vietnam – no, the only reason I’m here in Vietnam is because I found someone that makes me a better person, and will have a positive impact on my boy as he becomes a man. She can’t travel to the U.S. because terrorism, or whatever, so I have to be here.

The environment I provide my boy when he’s under my care is what I can control, and I’m working on that to the best of my ability. I don’t enjoy being separated from him for months at a time, but I go on faith that he’ll be better off in the long-term because of it.

He’ll be my son far longer as an adult than as a child – God-willing we both live long enough.

Am I being authentic enough for you? lol

It’s kind of important if you have any kind of online presence. You’re not helping anyone by trying to be someone else. It’s why I’m in the process of redesigning my mobile app to be more me, rather than some business entity registered w/ the state of Virginia.
