Can’t see two feet in front of me

“As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.” –Rumi

How many of us can say that we know exactly what our destination will be when we set out to do something? I have heard so many times the analogy of the airline pilot knowing the destination of where his flight is going. For example, they’re flying from New York to Los Angeles to. He knows the destination, so he knows how to enter the coordinates into the computer, how to plan the trip and what not.

What people who use this analogy are talking about is there are goals and you need to know where you’re going in order to properly plan for the journey. However, there’s also a flip side of that coin in that we just don’t know what everything that is going to come when we begin the journey.

We may know what the destination is, or at least what we want the destination to be, but we don’t know everything that is going to happen on the journey from point A to point B. In fact, if we were to know what we’re going to deal with when we first begin the journey, we might not want to start the journey in the first place! We might be content to just stay where we are and say, “I’m good. I’m just gonna stick here in New York where it’s comfortable.”

When I began the process of courting and marrying my wife Sana, I didn’t know everything that was going to happen in the years to follow. But I can honestly say that if I were to be told all of the craziness we’ve gone through, I would’ve said, “Sign me up. I’ll do it.” Why? Because she’s worth it.

We may know what our destination is, or what we desire the destination to be. But there are times where we can’t see two feet in front of us after we begin the journey. Those airline pilots an idea of what their weather might be going from New York to Los Angeles, but the weather can change in a heartbeat. They can be flying over Iowa and all of a sudden they’re dealing with a major thunderstorm. They’ve got to reroute part of the trip.

Oftentimes you have a general direction of where you want to go, but you can only see a few steps in front of you. But as you go, the more the light of your action and your momentum and the energy that you’re giving off, the more that lights up the way, so to speak. The more positive energy you give off, the more positive vibes you give off, the more the way in front of you is lit up and it just becomes clear with what you are to do and what your ultimate destination is going to be.
