The real reason I do a trumpet podcast

I sometimes wonder why I do a weekly podcast focused on trumpet. It’s hardly my main gig these days, and I haven’t had a paying gig in over 2 years. Maybe a lot of trumpeters can say that because of Covid, but that’s a different story.

But to do a weekly show on something that I’m marginally interested in – on the surface anyway – is kind of a mystery.

Until I do interviews like the one I just released today with Tom Hooten of the LA Philharmonic. The guy’s a ball of fire, and totally inspired me to keep at it, both when I did the interview in August, and today when I listened to it again to do all the edits and show notes.

You don’t need to be a trumpeter to appreciate this one. Tom’s a cool cat and has a lot of cool things to say about music, life, and how the two often intersect.
